THE BUZZTASTIC BEE-BALANCING BLUNDERSHOW
The Buzztastic Bee-Balancing Blundershow is a theatre performance created by Dorset artists Sophie Fretwell and Bogdan Babei in 2022. It began at the Bournemouth Emerging Arts Fringe Festival (BEAF) and since then it’s tour has reached multiple locations, including both Glastonbury Festival and Camp Bestival in 2024.
I worked directly with Sophie to design and create a set of 4 custom bee props, each representing a different type of bee in the show.

I created the bees using fabrics and recycled acrylic. I designed the shapes in Adobe Illustrator, laser cut them from black acrylic sheets and then used heat to mould the shape before stitching the soft elements into place.
An essential part of this project was to make the bees interactive for the children enjoying the show, so I added different textures and patterns to make them exciting to hold and touch.
